For Parents

At St Thomas of Canterbury CE Primary School, Lapford, we are committed to providing a caring, safe, and well-structured environment where every child can thrive. We strive to inspire a love of learning while ensuring that all pupils feel valued, supported, and encouraged throughout their time with us.

We recognise the importance of strong partnerships between home and school and are committed to keeping parents and carers informed about school life. Our newsletter is shared weekly, providing updates on learning, events, and achievements. We also welcome open communication and are always happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

The school day begins for many children at 8.30am when they arrive to attend our free breakfast club.  For those not joining us for breakfast, registration takes place at 9:00am, and the school day finishes at 3:30pm. Out of School Club offers wraparound care from 7.30am - 6.00pm daily.

Lunch is served from 12:15pm to 1:15pm. Lunchtime at St Thomas of Canterbury is an important part of the school day, providing opportunities for children to enjoy a healthy meal, develop friendships, and build confidence and independence. Pupils sit together in their House teams, where older children naturally support and encourage younger pupils, creating a caring and inclusive atmosphere that reflects our family ethos. After lunch, children make the most of our extensive outdoor environment, with access to the school grounds throughout the year. Whether exploring the field in wellington boots and waterproofs during the winter months or enjoying outdoor play in warmer weather, our pupils benefit from fresh air, active play, and the freedom to learn and grow through outdoor experiences.

As a small school, we are fortunate to have a close-knit community where every child is known and valued. Our pupils naturally mix across year groups, forming friendships that extend beyond their own classes. It is not uncommon to see older pupils playing alongside our youngest children, creating a warm, inclusive atmosphere that reflects the caring ethos of our school.

Parents and carers play a vital role in the success of our school, and we greatly value the strong relationships we have with our families. Our Home School Agreement sets out our shared commitment to supporting every child's education and wellbeing. The Friends of Lapford School works closely with the school to organise events, raise funds, and strengthen our community, providing opportunities for parents, carers, and local residents to become actively involved in school life.

Effective communication is central to everything we do. If you have any questions about information you receive from the school, or if there is anything you would like to discuss, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We are always happy to help.
