Local Governance Board
Claire Quick - LGB Chair/Parent Governor
I have two children, both currently attending St Thomas of Canterbury, and I am passionate about helping children to learn and grow, both inside the classroom, but I also feel exploring and pursuing interests outside of the classroom is very important.
I have a keen interest in the outdoor world and educating children on the natural environment and where their food comes from. St Thomas of Canterbury has an amazing outside space and forest school which the children are very lucky to have. In my role as treasurer of 'Friends of Lapford School', this is something we are hoping to develop further, over the last couple of years I have been involved in helping to raise funds for this through our 'lambing bingo' and 'duck race' among many other annual events.
I work as a rural surveyor part-time and enjoy helping on my husband's farm as much as I can. I look forward to being involved as a governor and helping to ensure every child thrives.
Jess Wright - Head of School

I have been the Head of School at St Thomas of Canterbury Church of England Primary School since April 2022 and feel incredibly privileged to lead such a wonderful school community.
I am passionate about ensuring that every child feels happy, safe and valued, and that all children are given the opportunities and encouragement they need to achieve their full potential. I firmly believe that a small school can offer something truly special, where every child is known as an individual and positive relationships are at the heart of everything we do.
Since joining the school, I have been proud to lead a period of significant change and improvement, including our transition to a Church of England school, the development of our nursery provision and the strengthening of our curriculum and wider opportunities for pupils.
As Head of School, I am committed to working closely with staff, governors, parents and the wider community to ensure that our school continues to thrive. Our vision of “Curious minds, caring hearts, courageous spirits” reflects everything I want for our children, and I am passionate about making St Thomas of Canterbury a place where everyone feels they belong and can flourish.
Caroline Gilpin-Perkins - Staff Governor
I trained as a teacher in primary education and taught for eight years. I had a change of career for six years and then became a stay-at-home mum when I had my son. Once my son started to attend Lapford Pre-School, I quickly got drawn in to volunteering and joining the committee that at that time ran the pre-school. Once he was at the Primary School (Now SToC), I volunteered weekly in different classes across the school before eventually getting a job as a part-time classroom assistant around ten years ago. I have enjoyed seeing the school grow and am excited by the recent change to C of E status. I look forward to serving as a staff governor on the LGB.
Jane Cornelius - Foundation Governor
Foundation Governor
Arwen O'Callaghan - Community Governor

Karen Dalby - Community Governor
I live just outside Lapford, having moved to the area in 2017. Since then, I have volunteered in local primary schools and spent a year working as a SEN Teaching Assistant in another local primary school, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I am passionate about education and keen to continue building on my experience. I hope to use my enthusiasm and local knowledge to make a positive contribution to the school and its pupils as a community governor.
Sarah Madden - Parent Governor
I have lived in Lapford for nearly 20 years and work locally as a veterinary surgeon. I have one daughter at St Thomas of Canterbury, Lapford and two who have moved onto Chulmleigh College.
In recent years I have enjoyed being a parent volunteer at our forest school and part of FLS. I am excited to contribute as a parent governor to the further development of this ambitious caring and inclusive village school.
