A School Where Children Flourish

At St Thomas of Canterbury Church of England Primary School, everything we do is guided by our Christian vision:

"Let all that you do be done in love."
1 Corinthians 16:14

Inspired by our vision of Curious Minds, Caring Hearts, Courageous Spirits, we are committed to ensuring that every child flourishes academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually within a caring, ambitious and inclusive community.

In recent years, our school has entered an exciting new chapter. We have become a Church of England Primary School, developed a clear Christian vision and values, expanded our provision through the opening of The Nest for children from 9 months to 11 years, and continued to strengthen every aspect of school life. As a result, more and more families are choosing St Thomas of Canterbury, and our school community continues to grow.

Our most recent Ofsted inspection recognised the quality of education and care that children experience every day. The school was judged to be meeting the expected standard in every area, with Attendance and Behaviour recognised as a Strong Standard, reflecting the high expectations, nurturing relationships and positive culture that underpin everything we do.

Happy, Safe and Ready to Learn

One of the most powerful messages from our inspection was the inspectors' description of daily life at St Thomas of Canterbury:

"From the early years through to Year 6, pupils at this small school feel happy and safe, and genuinely love coming to learn."

We believe that children learn best when they feel valued, secure and inspired. Our small school allows us to know every child as an individual, helping us nurture their strengths, support them through challenges and celebrate every success.

A Caring Christian Community

Relationships are at the heart of our school. Our Christian values of Love, Community, Curiosity, Bravery and Resilience shape the way we learn, work and care for one another.

The inspection recognised this special sense of belonging:

"The school embraces its close-knit community where kindness and respect are second nature. Courageous spirits shine through in the pride pupils take in their school and in the way they wear their uniform and live out its values every day."

We are proud to be a school where every child is encouraged to develop confidence, compassion and the courage to make a positive difference.

High Expectations for Every Child

We believe every child deserves an excellent education, regardless of their starting point.

Our broad and ambitious curriculum, dedicated staff and personalised approach ensure that children develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed.

Inspectors recognised that:

"In this small school, every pupil is known and valued."

This reflects our commitment to inclusion, ensuring that every child is supported to flourish and achieve their potential.

A Calm and Purposeful Learning Environment

Excellent behaviour and strong attendance enable children to make the very most of every learning opportunity.

Ofsted recognised these as particular strengths of the school, commenting that:

"Pupils behave remarkably well. They show respect for one another."

and

"There is a calm, focused atmosphere, which is highly conducive to learning."

These outcomes are built on positive relationships, clear expectations and a culture where children feel respected, supported and encouraged to do their very best.

Looking to the Future

Although we are incredibly proud of what our school has achieved, we believe that excellence is a journey rather than a destination.

We continue to develop our curriculum, enrich children's experiences and strengthen our Christian vision so that every child who joins St Thomas of Canterbury leaves us as a confident learner, a caring friend and a courageous citizen, ready for the next stage of their education and life.

We warmly invite you to visit our school and experience for yourself what makes St Thomas of Canterbury such a special place to learn and grow.
